I know that planning family photos is stressful so I am here for give you all the tips for a stress-free family photoshoot in Laguna Beach. From putting together perfect outfits and getting everyone out of the house, to trying to avoid meltdowns & tantrums, the to-do list can feel never ending. Then add in knowing that you have a set amount of time for your Laguna Beach photoshoot to have great images captured – it’s a lot of stress!
I’ve shot many family photo sessions in Orange County in my career, and I have all the tips and tricks you need to make sure your family photos have as little stress as possible!
You get to be the cool parent during your family photos! Once you’re at your session, my best tip is to leave the parenting up to me for the duration of our time together. Your Laguna Beach family photoshoot is not the time for discipline (I promise this only ever results in total meltdowns). This is the time for you to love on your littles, play, & have nothing but fun. I promise that I will help redirect where needed and if needed. Obsess over your littles, smile and adore them like everything they do is the cutest thing ever. Be present & embrace the chaos that is likely happening, & just trust that I’m “getting the shot” – because I promise to you that I am!
Getting to our Laguna Beach family photoshoot location early allows you and the kids to get settled before we get started. This gives you time to change into your outfits, fix hair, and any other final step of getting ready you need to do. (I do recommend getting your kids dressed when you arrive. This just gives you a better shot of not having any spills or wrinkles from the car ride over!)
Your kids will feed off of your energy. If you concentrate on smiling and being silly with your littles, then I’ll get the shot! Don’t try to force your kids to smile or look at the camera. Instead, focus on having fun, snuggling, and just loving on your family.
At the end of the day, kids are kids – a bribe never hurts! Snacks like Goldfish, fruit snacks, and other foods that won’t melt or get too sticky are great to have on hand. It’s best to choose ones that are small and can be easily tucked into a back pocket. I’d also recommend bringing a new wrapped toy that they can have immediately after the session. A little reward can go a long way!
We will always aim for the best photoshoot light, but if it’s absolutely not possible with nap times & bed times, happy kids always win out over good light. I can make any light situation work, but I can’t photoshop a smile!
At the end of the day, YOU set the mood for your family photos in Laguna Beach! Kiddos pick up on their parents’ moods more easily than you think, so if you’re having fun & laughing during your session – chances are your kiddos will also! So no stress, we’ve got it handled!
