Every single client of mine has told me that they are worried about picking out family photoshoot outfits. So if you are worried about it, too — you are not alone! It’s much simpler than you think. As a photographer in Newport Beach, I have all the tips and tricks you need, so let’s dive into it!
When picking out outfits for your family photoshoot in Newport Beach, choose colors and patterns that won’t be distracting. Neutral colors also match with all settings, so you won’t have to worry about clashing with your surroundings. Ivories, creams, beiges, tans, & browns are my favorite!
Textures add dimension and make photos more interesting! Flowy dresses add movement, and even smaller textures will catch the eye. By adding different textures through the material of your outfits, you’ll add extra depth to your photos! (Some textures to consider are chunky knits, tulle, velvet, leather, silk, corduroy, suede, and lace!)
If you book a longer session for your Newport Beach family photoshoot, you’ll have time for an outfit change. If you have 1 nicer outfit and 1 more casual outfit, you’ll get much more variety in your photos!
I know it’s tempting to buy matching outfits for everyone in the fam and call it a day, but when you buy matching outfits, the eye will naturally be drawn to the outfits. We want the eye to be drawn to your cute faces! I recommend that mom picks her outfit first and then coordinates everyone else’s outfit around hers. Also, if you’re going to have someone wearing a pattern, stick with just one person in a pattern. Too many can make the photos look messy!
Don’t be afraid to toss on a hat or wear your favorite jewelry! These things can add more interest to a photo. Props make things more fun, too. With the amount of Newport Beach photoshoots I do, it’s no surprise that a surfboard showed up at some point!
If I could give you only one tip when it comes to family photoshoot outfits, it would be this. Feeling comfy during your session is so important! If you don’t feel good in your outfit, you won’t be able to be yourself in the photos. We want to capture you and your family feeling natural!
The biggest mistake people make when it comes to family photo outfits is mixing too many patterns or wearing bright & loud colors. They’re just too distracting! But don’t worry about making any outfit mistakes when you book with me. I’ll be there for you the whole way, assisting you as much as you need with putting outfits together! Try on your outfits at home before showing up to your family photoshoot to make sure that you love how the outfits fit & look.
So now that you know how to put together the best family photo outfits, let’s book that session!
