So you want to have an in-home newborn photoshoot in Newport Beach but you aren’t sure where to start. Don’t worry – I can help! From when to schedule, how to prepare you and your baby, to other general tips, this blog post will leave you with all the information you need before booking with your Newport Beach Photographer.
You will want to schedule your in-home newborn photoshoot within the first couple of weeks of your baby’s life. This is the time where they’re still sleepy, squishy, and curled up which is perfect for these kinds of photos! The session will take about 1.5 to 2 hours. This will make sure we have time for all the different shots we want and to allow for your newborn to be a newborn. Patience is key for these kinds of shoots. Take breaks when needed, allowing your baby to relax and settle, ensuring a more comfortable and enjoyable experience for everyone involved. They’re on their own schedules and moods, so we will be prepared for anything!
When it comes to the rooms you want your photos taken in, you’ll want to consider a few things. First is natural light. This makes for the best photos, and we can also plan the time of your session around the best light for that room. Create a cozy and clutter-free environment that reflects your family’s style and personality. Declutter the space and add soft, neutral tones for a timeless backdrop.
Since this is an in-home lifestyle newborn photoshoot in Newport Beach, there won’t be any wrapping or specific props that I provide. I do encourage that you incorporate meaningful props that hold sentimental value or represent your family’s journey, though! It could be a special blanket, a cherished toy, or an heirloom item that adds a personal touch.
Make sure to consider your baby’s schedule when picking a time for these photos. You want to schedule the photoshoot in Laguna Beach during a time when your lil babe is typically calm and content, like after a feeding. A relaxed baby makes for a smoother and more enjoyable session. Pro-tip: give baby a bath beforehand to tire them out even more! I also recommend keeping the room warm and using a white noise machine to keep your little one as comfortable as possible.
For any type of family photoshoot, I recommend planning everyone’s outfit around mom. This makes planning a lot easier when you have somewhere to start. For mom’s outfit, think flowy dresses – you’re newly postpartum and you should be comfortable! I always recommend neutrals to make sure your baby and your family are the main focus of the photos, not your outfits.
Last, but not least, don’t forget to take a moment to enjoy all the love and cuddles. This time with your newborn is fleeting, and these photos will be cherished memories for years to come. Soak in the love and I’ll take care of the rest!
