One of the first things my couples ask about after booking is: “do you have and tips for choosing the perfect engagement photo outfits?” I’ve helped many couples figure out their perfect engagement photo outfits for their photoshoot in Laguna Beach, and these are the 3 main tips to focus on.

1. Choose 2 outfits

When getting ready for your Laguna Beach engagement photoshoot, I recommend choosing two outfits. When you have one casual outfit and one more formal outfit, you will get more variety in your photos, and you can show off your style in multiple ways. Choose these outfits with individuality and comfort in mind, this way you will be able to move around more for fun shots! Most importantly, make sure the clothes feel like you!

2. Pick coordinating colors, not matching

Matching engagement photo outfits isn’t the move! Stick with coordinating colors so that they go together and don’t take away the focus from what is important. I always recommend neutrals and muted colors – they go with any photoshoot location in Laguna Beach and don’t take attention away from you!

3. Add details

Accessories like hats, jewelry, and hair pieces give a little more interest to engagement photos. Whether it’s your typical jewelry or something special for the occasion, don’t forget to accessorize!

I can’t help but include a couple other tips I like to give for engagement photo sessions. First is considering booking professional hair and makeup for the session. With professional hair and makeup, you can make sure you’re looking your absolute best for these special photos! Second is a reminder of a few things to bring with you to your engagement session. I always recommend blankets, makeup for touch ups, props like champagne, and extra clothes/towels/flip flops for beach sessions. I love getting my couples to play in the surf!

At the end of the day, what is most important when it comes to engagement photo outfits is choosing what feels most like you. When you’re comfortable, it’ll show in the photos. And that’s what we want!
